Hi Annie,

Here is one that I read this morning on Finland:

http://www.educationnation.com/index.cfm?objectid=8176F090-E58D-11E...

Interesting that all teachers have Master's degrees.  I am not sure if that is equivalent in our system in terms that level of education though.  But the various points about education in the article do make me wonder what we might be doing wrong and/or could learn from Finland's system and approaches.

how much did annie pay you to bring up finland ?

you are the p4e straightman ....

Ha, Ross! Actually, I tweeted that one earlier today, but nobody noticed :)  I was about to announce that I was moving to Finland, but luckily I noticed Annie's new discussion here...!

How handy! Come to our conference and you'll find out! Because Pasi Sahlberg the expert of experts on Finland is coming to our conference - and he's going to tell us all about it.

So Ross thinks I'm that predictable, eh? I'm going to have to do, or say, something outrageous and surprising.

If you're moving to Finland Sheila, can i come and be your housekeeper?

I will think about it.....:)

Another interesting one on Finland's education system, ending with:

"For students who come to the school far behind their educational level, the Finnish system allows them to spend a year working one-on-one on in very small groups with teachers such as Halonen-Malliarakis.

"I don't think there's any doubt that we're moving at a slower pace than some other schools," said Halonen-Malliarakis. "But students' social skills are more developed here. We teach them how to think."

A U.S. examination, but still relevant to our conversations in Ontario, I think.

"Hi Heather: First of all, I too feel that Maslow's hierarchy has much to offer. I have never liked the term hierarchy here as Maslow describes it more as though it were a continuum which we cycle through depending on where we are ion our lives,…"
